Subject: Things I’ve learned
Hm, so I remembered Phil’s quote from graduation last year, and it was something about how last summer was the blank page between the chapters of our lives. I wish I remembered the exact quote; I’m not doing it much justice here. Anyways, the reason I’m bringing it up now is because I think last summer was the blank page at the end of the life I’d known for the last 18 years. This year is the prologue to something new.
And if I were to sum up my life’s philosophy, it would look something like this:
Rule One: Life is unpredictable. Screw plans. Nothing will go as planned. Just live on a day to day basis.
Rule Two: Don’t aspire for greatness later. Be great now. What did you want to do? Why don’t you just do it now? Case closed.
Rule Three: Don’t complain. It could be worse.
Rule Four: You can feel like shit but you should never look like it.
Rule Five: Enjoy it while you can. Everything is a privilege. Nothing is a right.
And then, here are the little things I learned that may or may not be of importance:
- Over the knee boots are the new high heels.
- True friends are the ones who would wake up at 5 AM and walk a mile to hold your hand at the hospital, or drive from one end of California to the other end in order to visit you when you’re bored, or send you a letter from the other side of the continent to cheer you up and tell you to keep holding on, or make time in their busy schedules just to see you in person.
- Adversity brings out either the best or worst in a person.
- People from Williams are just awesome.
- Just ask. Even if you think it’s futile. There’s still a chance.
- Obedience is slavery. Respect is not.
- If I’ve done nothing wrong, I shouldn’t have to say sorry.
- There’s always online shopping.
- I am someone to be reckoned with.
- Stay away from hospitals if possible.
- Being a doctor = no social life. I don’t get why Asian parents push their children to be doctors. Don’t you want your kids to be happy?! They won’t be happy if they don’t like spending their entire day at the clinic/hospital.
- Chinese medicine does work. Although it still smells awful.
- Try new things if you can. You don’t know if you’ll get a chance again.
- “Chemo brain” is a great excuse.
- No one will truly understand me. But I’ll date the guy who tries to.
- Music makes the world go round.
